He was one of my favorite coaches/parents and was always there to listen or give you a positive word. He will be sorely missed by this community. Dear Ethel and Jeff Please accept my condolences on the passing of Charlie. I just found out about his death late last night and do not have time to come to Huntington this morning. I worked with Charlie at Owens and remember him racing in the seventies. He was always nice to me and a great guy. Charlie was a great man and a kind man, so easy to get along with. He will be greatly missed. Such an accomplished hard working everyday man. Our whole family thought the world of him and everyone in the Betts household. Ethel and Jeff, my prayers are with you and your family today. God Bless Bill Gilkerson Jr.

I am so sorry for this loss. The first time I remember meeting Uncle Charles I was 15 years old. He took me into his garage, and showed me one of his dragsters then he gave me a Betts Raceing shirt. I still have the shirt. It dosent fit me now, but I always kept it. Later on in life I was living with Grandma Eve, and every time Uncle Charles came by he always had a way to cheer me up, and make me feel good about the choices i made in life. Uncle Charles was a wise man, and He will be missed. RIP Uncle Charles!!
