Royal Gene Thacker Click for Condolences      Printable Version 1930 - 2010 Royal Gene Thacker, 80, of Pompano Beach, FL., formerly of Huntington, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the Holy Cross Hospital, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Rev. Carl Lilly. Burial will follow at Spring Valley Memory Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by Veterans Honor Guard. Gene was a veteran of the US Air Force and the US Army with 27 years and the recipient of the Bronze Star having served in the Korean War and two tours of Viet Nam. He was the owner and operator of Syndor RTE Distribution. Gene was born on August 27, 1930 in Huntington,WV the son of the late Thurman and Alma Barnett Thacker. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons: Bradley Gene and Jeffrey Alan Thacker, one brother: Donald G. Thacker and one sister: Geraline Holly. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Patricia Sweeney Thacker, a daughter: Rebecca Thacker, a granddaughter Lindsey Thacker and a great granddaughter: Kalyn Wood all of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. Three brothers: Johnny D., Paul R. and Dallas K. Thacker all of Huntington, two sisters: Janice Mynes of Austin TX. and Brenda Thacker of Huntington, WV Friends may call from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the Reger Funeral Home Contributions may be made to the Lighthouse of Broward Training School for the Blind: 650 North Andrews Avenue, Ft. To Brenda, Janice, Johnny, Paul and Dallas .... Please accept my sincere condolences at the passing of Gene. I'm sorry that I cannot be present at his service, but my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

We feel like we have lost a member of our immediate family. Gene, his wife Patricia(Pat)and daughter Rebecca(Becky)are dear friends of ours. We always visited and/or stayed with Pat & Gene when were were in South Florida. We would have dinner together and would enjoy one another's company immensely. Our nation has lost a true patriot and a person who lived his convictions of treating all people with respect through his actions. We want to leave the family with this thought..."when the sun sets on one side, it's rising anew on the other side". With our love and condolences, Joe & Shirley
