Giles Melvin GibsonGiles Melvin Gibson, 77, of Bellefontaine, died at 12:35 PM Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine.

He was born in Marion, Ohio on May 20, 1933, a son of the late Curtis and Irene Columber Gibson.

On November 30, 1975, he married Opal Lucretia Fout Gibson in Bellefontaine and she preceded him in death on November 20, 2004. He was also preceded in death by a son, Paul Gibson; a great grandson; a brother, Larry Gibson; four sisters, Ruth Hinton, Christine Shrout, Lois Plikerd and Carol Lee Hart; and a son-in-law, Earl Parker.

Survivors include a son, Curtis (Mollie) Gibson of Bellefontaine; two daughters, Elizabeth Parker of Bellefontaine, and Sherry Napier of Jackson Center; a brother, Clifford (Starling) Gibson of Richwood; and two sisters, Starling Andrews of Marion, and Norma Jean Painter of Canal Winchester; eight grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; fiancée, Maxine Brunke and her family.

He retired from HBD Industries in Bellefontaine and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Bellefontaine Moose Lodge 2563.

A fan of the Bengals, the Reds and NASCAR, he enjoyed playing pool, Bingo and card games with friends and family.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Bellefontaine Church of Christ in Christian Union Fellowship Hall beginning at 2:00 P.M. His body is being cremated and the ashes will be interred at Mac-O-Chee Cemetery at a later date. Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be given to Universal Home Health and Hospice.

Giles was one of the kindest, most gentle people I ave ever known. Bless him.

So sorry to hear about grandpa Giles as my family used to call him he always kind and fun when he came into Ikes with grandma Giles as we called her he will be missed.Our prayes are with you all.

I worked many years with Giles at HBD.He always had time to say hello and ask how things were going. Good guy to work with to.Another one gone too soon.May he rest in peace.His son-in-law Earl Parker was my best friend. I hope the family and friends can find comfort at this difficult time. Farewell Giles, you will be missed.
