1921 - 2012

Betty J. SwonguerBetty J. Swonguer, 90, of De Graff, died at 6:45 PM Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Heartland of Marysville.

She was born August 22, 1921, in Logan County, a daughter of the late Roland Burr and Grace Young Bishop.

On October 7, 1940, she married Huber Hudson Swonguer in Richmond, Indiana and he died April 30, 2008. She was also preceded in death by a brother; George Bishop.

She is survived by four sons; Marvin (Peg) Swonguer of Belle Center, Maurice (Kathy) Swonguer of Safety Harbor, FL, Michael (Vivian) Swonguer of De Graff, and Ron (Lee Ann) Swonguer of Huntsville, two daughters; Martha "Marty" (Bob) Benedict of East Liberty, and Melinda "Lindy" (Chuck) Knapp of Pickerington, a sister; Margaret Debo of Lansing, MI, nine grandchildren; Greg (Kathy) Swonguer, Darcy (Jon) Neeld, Heather (John) Webster, Cara (Jobey) Teel, Jana (Tim) McPherson, Kylene Swonguer, Nicole (Michael) Boberg, Brock (Kylene) Swonguer, Makenzie Knapp and sixteen great grandchildren.

Betty was a strong, hardworking farmer's wife and homemaker. She enjoyed reading, growing flowers, and baking "melt in your mouth" pie. Everyone enjoyed when she told the "stories" of her life. We will dearly miss our loving, faithful mother and friend.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, with Pastor Larry Brown officiating. Burial is in the Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 from 5 to 8 P.M.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Heartland Hospice, 685 Delaware Ave., Suite 200, Marion, OH 43302.

Dearest Marty, Benny and family: We were so sorry to hear about your Mom's death. We send our sincere condolences to each of you. We know that words can never really give you as much comfort at this time as you may need, but hope that just knowing so many are thinking of you with love, will give you some peace in your hearts in the days ahead. My mother,Jean Smith took care of Frank Smith At Logan acres when Betty took care of Huber. They had many hours of good times. I would come to town and go out to Logan Acres and visit with them all. I enjoyed Betty so very much, She was a wonderful lady. We laughed and cried and always had a positive outlook. Even in their situation they rejoiced about many things. Thank you Betty for many gooooood memories.
