Roger BolanderRoger L. Bolander

WHEELERSBURG-Roger L. Bolander passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024 after a two year battle with Lewy Body dementia. He was 86 years old. Roger was born at home in 1937 to his parents, Philip and Edith Hall Bolander, in Slocum Station. A lifelong resident of Wheelersburg, he graduated from Wheelersburg High School in 1956. He remained a lifelong friend to Wayne Bussler and Karl Cunningham who have pre-deceased him. Another lifelong friend, Cline Jenkins, survives. Roger is also survived by his wife of 58 years, Janet and their children, April Bolander and Philip (Teri) Bolander. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Sean Casey, Colleen Casey and Gabe Bolander and one great grandchild, Olivia Casey. Not only was he preceded in death by his parents, but by all his siblings, Laurena Piguet, Charlotte Warnock, Marcella Walker, Donald Bolander and his wife Marge, Joan Deemer and husband Sonny and Richard Bolander and his wife Sherry. Roger was the “baby” of all the children. Roger is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Nieces are Patricia McGuire and her son, Scott, Roxanne (George) Demeter, Donna (Steve) Wireman, Dianna (Tom) Lagucki, and Patricia Amici. Nephews are Mike Piguet, Greg (Carolyn) Piguet, Rod Piguet, Ed Deemer, and Tim (Lisa) Bolander. There were two nephews to precede him in death, Philip Piguet and an infant son of his sister, Charlotte Warnock. There are many great and great, great nieces and nephews. Roger served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1960-1966 and was on call during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He spent 18 years working in the open hearth at the steel mill until laid off in 1980. Not wanting to leave his hometown, he worked any job he could find until he was hired full-time by Wheelersburg Schools as a janitor at the high school. Eventually he was hired by the Porter Township Roads and Maintenance Department where he eventually retired from after 19 years in 2002. While Roger was a quiet homebody, he loved to keep up with all the things Wheelersburg. He loved to follow Wheelersburg sports and he especially loved the yearly reunion in the summer of all the classes graduated 50 years or more. Roger served the good people of Porter Township for many years by plowing their snow-covered roads through digging the graves of many residents at the township cemetery where he will also be laid to rest.

Services for Roger will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Sam Cooke officiating. Interment will be in Wheelersburg Cemetery. Dear Janet, April, and Phil, I'm so sorry for your loss. I loved Uncle Roger. I think fondly of him visiting us in FL and of taking us for rides in the summer in Ohio. I will be thinking of y'all. Julie
