 James D. Lawson
WHEELERSBURG-James D. Lawson left this world for his heavenly home on Monday, May 6, 2024 at the ripe age of 101. James was born in Slab Fork, WV on September 18, 1922. He and his family moved to a small farm in South Webster, Ohio around 1930. James graduated from South Webster High School in 1941, where he was a horseshoe pitching champion, starting basketball player and catcher for the only S.W.H.S. baseball team to make it to the State Championship, where they came in second. James worked in Canton, Ohio and was drafted in the second World War from 1942 until 1946 and again was in the Korean War in the Ohio National Guard from 1950 until 1952. James married the love of his life, Wilma M. Perry, and they had two sons, James M. Lawson (Donna) and Rodney G. Lawson, both of Wheelersburg, Ohio. He retired from Armco Steel in Ashland, KY and was the longest serving Township Clerk for 36 years, 3 months. He co-founded the Vernon Township Fire Department and served as Captain and held various offices in the department. James was inducted into the South Webster High School Hall of Fame in May 2015. He proudly served 29 years, as a Sunday School teacher at the Lyra Pentecostal Church in Lyra, Ohio. James was preceded in death by his adopted parents, wife, 12 brothers and one grandchild. He is survived by his sons, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, four step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.
Services for James will be 1:00 pm Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Reverend Dean Kuhn officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, 11:00 until the 1:00 pm service. Interment will be in the family plot at Vernon Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by James Dickey Post #23 American Legion. Condolences to the family may be made at www.harrison-pyles.com.

I met Mr.Lawson at Concord Health and Rehabilitation where he came to get therapy. he was always so jovial with his stories..I'm really going to miss him. He has two of the best sons, Jim and Rodney, they were always here to see there dad. I am so very sorry for y'alls immense loss...
