George Thacker, my hero, my very best teacher starting at Red Oak School, Greasy Ridge Ohio 1941 and 1942...my first and second grades. I still remember hearing his car, about a 1936 black coupe with spare in a metal wheel cover on the trunk lid. We would be waiting in the school yard doing what young ones do and we would hear his car coming around the bend and immediately put on our halos. All the kids loved him. He taught six (6) grades in a one room shool building. In my second grade he allowed me to teach the other pupil in the second grade. Second grade equaled two students. Red oak was torn down and I went to Bradrick and then on to "The Lower School" in Chesapeake. The big white two story, fire trap, near the WV and OH bridge He was my math teacher in the fifth and maybe the six grade. One time we were into fractions. I just could not get a certain problem to make sense for me. He observed my agitation and stopped the class to give me help. I have remembered this all my years. He made me see, made me understand...it was like someone turning on a light in my brain and my fondness and respect grew for George Thacker. One of my minors at Marshall was Math. After school and moving around the country, my mother died and George and Tom Hesson came to the the funeral. I called him George, not out of disrespect, but for the respect he had taught me... to raise my head and forget the things I had to overcome. I did not know any of George's family, but they have my most sincere and deepest condolence: his wife, children and grandchildren. George Thacker was both Paul Bunyan and Albert Einstien to me. George Thacker was a great man. Thank you Dottie Goodall Gibson for sending me the information on Mr. George Thacker. Please forgive my grammar. I majored in the scientific field.

Dearest Robin, Judy and Family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I can so remember all the good times we had going in and out of "grammy's" house and playing in their yard. The memories are precious and vivid and I will treasure them always. I know nothing will absolve the hurt you are now feeling and hope that you can find some peace in the Lord, as that is where I find mine since I lost my buddy, my daddy. It is hard to feel deep in our hearts...but we KNOW that they are in heaven watching down upon us, in their TRUE home. I will be praying for you and your family and please know George will always be remembered fondly and I'll never forget the times we had together. You are in our prayers and thoughts. ANd if you should need anything please please let me know. Robin, I miss you. Love and Prayers, Patty, Ike, Stephanie, Carol and RJ Lake

Dear Judy,Elroy and family,Years have passed so quickly but not the wonderful memories of your caring Dad. He managed to endure five of us "Judys"--in the same class. I'll never forget his patience. Now living in S.C., I'm remembering all the times you and I shared. Even though we are miles apart, I feel so close in heart. May our dear Lord comfort each of you . Judy and Dave

Judy, I remember the many great laughs (and the outstanding meals) I have had with both your mother and father. They were a real encouragement to me, just to watch their love for family was a joy. I learned so much from observing them. Your family is on our hearts and in our prayers. Your Dad was a special gift and it was my privilege to have known him. Just think how we got to know each other, all because of God's goodness though a book business. Love you guys, Jerry and for Janet too
