Delbert Herman Black, 91, of Thurman, Ohio, formerly of Chesapeake, Ohio, passed away at his residence February 10, 2008, after an extended illness. He was born April 28, 1916 in Lawrence County, Ohio, son of the late James William (Bill) Black and Offa (Clark) Black. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lyndal V. Black in 2004; a son Glenn D. Black; brother William (Billy) Black and infant sister. He is survived by one grandson Wess (Tiffany) Smith of Thurman, with whom he resided; a daughter-in-law Linda L. Black and several grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and retired from Kaiser Aluminum at Ravenswood, WV. He has been a resident of the Thurman area for over 50 years and was a member of Pomaria Baptist Church. Friends may call at Hall Funeral Home Proctorville, Ohio from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday February 12, 2008 and services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday February 13, 2008 at Hall Funeral Home with the Rev. Lloyd E. Fry officiating. Burial will follow at Rome Cemetery. Proctorville VFW Post #6878 will conduct military graveside rites.
