He was born April 15, 1929 in Lawrence County, Ohio, son of the late King James Lester and Olive Freeman Lester. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Sue Dillon Lester; two sons James Milton Lester Jr. and wife of Jeanette of Holt, Florida, and James Douglas Lester and wife Jennifer of Crown City, Ohio; two daughters Kelley Maynard and fiancé Greg Johnson of Crown City, Ohio, and Melissa Dillon and husband Kevin of Proctorville, Ohio; beloved grandchildren, Joey, Kara, Katie, Megan, Jake, Hannah, and Haley; three brothers Lowel Lester and wife June of Sonora, California, Gilbert Lester and wife Sally of Proctorville, Ohio and Cecil Lester and wife Janet of Allen, KY; sister Ruth Clark and husband Tom of Knoxville, TN; best buddy Norman Taylor of Huntington, WV; sisters and brothers-in-law Gary and Lynn Michael, Dan and Kay Dillon, Kathy and Sam Johnson, Betty and Greg Cook, and Jennifer Tanner; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and church family. Jim was a 1947 graduate of South Point High School, where he loved to play football, selected as Captain, All County Team, and known to his teammates as Klondike. He was the owner of Jim Lester Carpets. His greatest enjoyment the past few years was watching his grandchildren play basketball in the youth leagues. He was very proud of them. Also he was Duke Basketballs #1 fan. This earth will be a lesser place without him, but Heaven is rejoicing with their newest angel. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday March 6, 2008 at Hall Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Dickerson and Rev. George Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens Miller, Ohio. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday March 5, 2008 at Hall Funeral Home Proctorville, Ohio. Sue,
I am so sorry to see that you lost a great friend and husband.
My dad (Leo Martin) and I were at the funeral home Wednesday evening but there were so many people, we never got a chance to talk to you.
Jim was a wonderful person, who meant so much to me and my family. The kids are grown up now but have never forgotten his kindess he always showed them.
When Vernon, my late husband, would go to Jim's store and talk, and talk, and talk... Jim would never forget about our kids and always found something fun for them to do. They have talked about how much fun it was to go to "Uncle Jim's" store.
Jim loved eveyone, esp. kids. I will remember him as one of the most remarkable person I ever met. We will miss him a lot.
Vernon used to drive the truck to Macon Ga with Jim to get carpet.
Vernon never went anywhere in his life and Jim took him to Cracker Barrell and places Vernon had never heard about. He would come home like a kid, talking about new places Jim took him. What a blessing he was!
You and your family will be in my prayers. I hope to see you soon.
Martha

Dear family and friends of James Milton Lester,
Linda and I were very sorry to learn about Uncle Jim's passing, and we want to extend our love and sympathy to his wife Carolyn, also Milton, Jeanette, Kara and to all his family and friends, most of whom we have never met. Some of my fond memories of Uncle Jim and Aunt Ruth go back to the 1950's when they would come to Indianapolis so they could attend the "Indianapolis 500 Mile Race." Uncle Jim would drive down in his antique Model A Ford, and he would take us for rides in the rumble seat, and we always thought that was pretty neat. I also remember visiting Uncle Jim, Aunt Ruth and Milton, in Ohio, at least a couple of times. On one visit I remember roaming some of the hills near their home, with my brother Dave, and Jim's brother Cecil. While we were there, we also went to church with them. I was so glad that Uncle Jim and Carolyn were able to come to Muncie for Aunt Alice & Uncle Byron Hunt's 50th wedding anniversary, as I had not seen Uncle Jim for a long time and I was able to meet Carolyn. One thing I appreciated about Uncle Jim was that always seemed to have a positive attitude about life.
Our love and prayers go out to every family member and friend during this difficult time. Although we will never see Uncle Jim again on this earth, we plan to see him again in heaven.

Milton and Jeanette, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I know from losing Mom and Burgess that memories make the pain easier after time. I know when Cheryl, Pat and Paul and I talk about the good times, it's so fun to remember them as they lived and loved. In time you too will be able to do the same. Again, I'm very sorry for you and your family.

Lester Family, I am so sorry to hear about Jim's passing. He was such a super guy. I will never forget how wonderful he was to my mom, my brother Gary and me. He was so good to us when we really needed help. I'll never forget being his "helper" when he just needed someone to hold the end of a ruler so he could measure someone's house for carpet. I'll forever cherish the memories of time spent with him. Please accept my condolences during this time. Jim will be missed!

Jim was a good man and I always enjoyed talking with him. I owe him for all his wisdom he gave me.
He was a smart business man who always gave a deal. I guess Heaven needed another good soul. My prayers go out to the family and friends of a good Ole' South Point boy.
