1917 - 2008
 Goldie Mae (Rice) Barker, 91, of South Point, Ohio, widow of Bert Barker, went to be with her Lord and her husband on Friday June 27, 2008 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Bert Barker; her parents Robert and Zelda Pemberton Rice; five brothers Jimmy, Oley, Clarence, Pete, and Harry Rice; two sisters Mary Webb and Vicie Fields; four grandchildren, William (Bobby) Rice, Tonya Garcia, Vickie Bonham, and Sherry Hayslip; and a wonderful daughter-in-law Emma Jean Barker. She is survived by three sons Charles F. Barker, Bert H. Rusty Barker and his wife Darla, Master Sgt. James L. Barker and his fiancé Diane Black and Seth all of South Point, Ohio; four daughters Barbara Garcia and her husband Ramon of Royce City, TX, Christine Weaver of Salem, Oregon, Janie Smith and her husband Johnny, and Lynda Hayslip and her husband John both of South Point, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren. She worshiped every Sunday and Wednesday night up to the end at The Lighthouse Church on Buffalo Creek Road South Point. The family wishes to express a very special thanks to granddaughter Deborah Jean Short and her husband Dale of Chesapeake, Ohio, nephew Johnny Boy Barker of Hampton, VA for all the beautiful roses, she loved them very much, and a very special thanks to her wonderful sisters-in-law, Catherine Rice, Ida Knight, and Mary Wright, and her nephew Harry Rice Jr. The Barker family wishes to thank Hospice of Huntington and her nurses Debbie Cline and Sharon, Hall Funeral Home of Proctorville, Ohio, every visitor who furnished food and beverages, those who sent cards and for their prayers. We appreciate each of you very much. Also, a special thanks to her very loving neighbors Buddy and Carolyn Whitt. Buddy considered mom his second mom; and a very special spiritual friend, Deacon Roy Anderson. Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday July 1, 2008 at Hall Funeral Home by Minister Charles Edwards. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens South Point, Ohio. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday June 30, 2008 at Hall Funeral Home Proctorville, Ohio. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Johnie Hayslip Jr., Lonnie and Johnny Smith III, Bert H. I WAS SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT MRS. GOLDIE.OH WHAT A WONDERFUL PERSON! MY LASTING MEMORY OF HER WWAS WHEN I WAS FIFTEEN,IT WAS AUGUST AN HOT SO VERY HOT AN HUMID I I WAS WALKING FROM BURLINTON GOING HOME SHE WAS IN HER YAR WORKING WHICH SHE ALWASY DID AND SHE LOOKED UP AND AND SAW ME MANY PEOPLE HAD ,AND THEY KNEW ME,BUT THEY LET CONTINUE TO WALK IN THE HOT SON,BUT NOT MRS GOLDIE SHE LOOKED UP AND SAW ME AND YELLED,WOULD YOU LIKE A GLASS OF WATER? YOU KNOW MY ANSWER,BUT THEN SHE OFFERED ME ,AND GAVE ME A RIDE HOME.GOD WAS GOOD TO MRS GOLDIE,BECAUSE MRS.GOLDIE WAS GOD AND SHE LOVED THE LORD. I will always miss her smile but it will always be in my heart. Aunt Goldie has traveled many miles to get home so now she can rest and be with uncle Burt, Daddy and uncle Forester.Plus many other that have gone before. They must be shouting in heaven. Love and prayers Rita

Our condolences to Rusty and all of the Barker family. I did not have the privilege of knowing your mom personally, but from others I have heard she was a wonderful and loving person, our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of need.

My love and prayers to your family. Goldie and Bert was always a part of our family and Goldie was a blessing to our family when our Dad passed and I wish I could be there to have repaid her kindness.
