John Moran, age 86, passed away November 11,, 2020, at Heartland of Riverview Assisted Living, from the effects of COVID. John grew up in Manhatten, New York, enjoying a childhood of running the NY streets with his friends and peeking through fences to catch a free glimpse of pro baseball and football games; he was a lifelong fan of his NY teams. His devotion to Catholicism in his early years took him around the world with long stays in Pakistan and Bolivia. His travels ultimately led him to Chesapeake, Ohio, where he met the love of his life, Kathy Moran, and took on the role of fatherhood. He enjoyed a career of helping others through counseling at Shawnee Mental Health, and Pathways, in Louisa, KY. He was also an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. John was a man of few words, but when he spoke it was always true and from the heart. John was truly one of the most honorable, humble and genuine people you could ever meet. His family was continually inspired by his ability to find the good in any situation. He was patient, kind, generous and never complained. John was quite proud of his Irish heritage, his mother and father were born in Leitrim, Ireland and enjoyed his retirement years surrounded, quite literally, by his big fat Irish family who adored him, namely, his wife of nearly 40 years Kathy Moran, daughters Mary Cochran (Scott), Julie (Mike) Dragovich, Bridget (Mike) Omasta, Joan (Sam) St Clair, grandchildren Erin Hall, Caroline Grimm, Jack & Bella Dragovich, Zoey Stull, Daisy & James St Clair, as well as a host of special pets. John was preceded in death by siblings Mary (Arnie) Thompson, Sr. Margaret Rose and Thomas Moran, all of New York. John was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Huntington. The family would like to acknowledge his friends at the Dominican Nuns and Maryknoll for their lifelong friendships, especially Father John Martin, and also offer special thanks to Dr. Apgar and the staff at Heartland for their years of compassionate care for John. Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements. Due to COVID, a funeral mass will be held at a later time with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, WV.
