1945 - 2021

Ronald James BlissRonald James Bliss, of Proctorville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital on April 14th, 2021 at the age of 75. Ron was born in Cuba, New York in 1945 to Margaret and Ronald Bliss. He had three brothers and one sister. Ron was a maintenance mechanic for Wisconsin Electric for 33 years. Additionally, he had a distinguished career as a combat engineer in the U.S. Marines, having served two tours in Vietnam and earned many decorations, medals and commendations. Ron was quick-witted and could always be counted on for a good joke or a spirited debate. He was a jack of all trades. He gave excellent advice regarding anything from car repair to how to expertly paint a room. He loved fishing, hunting, camping and could spend hours observing wildlife. He was a proud member of Full Gospel Assembly in Huntington, WV. Ron was preceded in death by his daughter Tonya Bliss and his first wife, Lyna and is survived by his current wife and devoted companion of 35 years, Darlene Johnson-Bliss, his children Valcos Bliss, Benjamin Rich (Kim) and twins, Erik and Derek Bliss, grandchildren, Bria, Adrian, Jordan, Brianna, Lamont, Erika and Lauren, great granddaughter, Alaydria, a host of nieces and nephews who were near and dear to his heart, loving neighbors and two faithful K-9s, Buddy and BunBun. The family is grateful for the outstanding care provided by the home dialysis team at Huntington Internal Medical Group (HIMG) and the Intermediate Intensive Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital at the end of his life. Private family services will be held. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ehallfuneralhome.com.
