
James Eugene (Jim) Sanborn of Proctorville, OH passed away peacefully on July 7, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness. Jim, born on April 17, 1933 in Middleport Ohio, was the eldest of 2 sons to Clarence and Alice (Dailey) Sanborn. His father Clarence died when Jim was 3 years old. His mother Alice wed Bethel Coleman who had 3 sons from a previous marriage. They later had another son, providing Jim with 5 brothers. Jim attended Middleport schools. He was a member of MHS football squad, winning the SEO Conference Championship in 1948. He married Clara Faye Taylor in 1956. They were blessed with six children, 3 sons and 3 daughters, two of whom died in infancy. Upon graduation from Ohio University in Athens, OH, he was employed by Celanese Chemical Co. and at Gallipolis Ferry, WV and later served in the position of Terminals Chemist at their Newark, NJ, and Houston, TX, facilities for a total of 29 years. He spent several years as an independent chemical consultant and completed his professional career as a research chemist at FMC Corp. in Houston. During retirement, he volunteered at St. Mary’s Outpatient Surgery and New Baptist Church Food Pantry for 15 years. In addition to his parents and stepfather Bethel Coleman, he is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Clara, his daughters Karen and Kristina, brothers Eugene Coleman and Jack Coleman. He is survived by children David (Sherry), Paul, Sharon (Carlyle) Logan, Steven (Bridget), grandchildren Jennifer (Cato) Rainey, Christina (Dafoe) Bulen, Kerry Sanborn, Justin (Lindsay), one great grandchild Mia, brothers Dan (Joanie), Clifford (Frances) Coleman, and Roy (Wilma) Coleman, many nieces and nephews, and special friends Linda Bowen and Jeannie Harlow. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Mike Hanlon of Proctorville. In lieu of flowers Jim requested donations be made to: New Baptist Church Food Pantry, 610 18th St., Huntington, WV 25702. Funeral service will be conducted 7 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio with visitation being held from 6 to 7 p.m. A graveside service and burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2021 at Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cheshire, Ohio.
