Gerald Robert "Gary Bob" Holderby, 69, of Proctorville, was welcomed home by Jesus while surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV. He was born July 10, 1952, in Huntington, WV, to the late Everett A. Holderby and his mothers the late Arvilla Woodyard Halley, and Kathleen J. (Kingery) Holderby. He was raised "out Paddy Creek" by his grandmother, the late Georgia Fuller Holderby. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Deborah Ann Holderby; a niece, J. Victoria Holderby; his father and mother-in-law, Mr. And Mrs. O'Dell Brumfield; a sister-in-law, Ella Marie Brumfield Zirkle aka “Tator”; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins. He is survived by his wife of 43 years and caretaker, Jenny (Brumfield); their children, Amanda and Daniel; his brothers Derby (Janet) and Greg (Peggy); his sister-in-law, Patsy Stephenson (Michael); and his brothers-in-law, Jim Brumfield, Joe Brumfield (Tracy), and Tommy Burcham; aunts Elaine Wooten, Barbara Holderby, Carol Burcham, Uncle Bob Waugh (Lilly), and many many cousins. He was “Uncle Bob” to Stacy McGraw, Katie Kinder, Tom E. Seymour, Deanna, Billy, Lucas, and Anna Holderby, Brian and Breanna Zirkle, Austin Brumfield, Andrew Stephenson, and Kaydee and Carter Brumfield; and “Uncle Popaw” to Avery Kate Brumfield. He also was excitedly awaiting the arrival of “Tator Chip”, Elliana Zirkle.
Gary Bob was retired but wore many hats over the years at Holderby’s SuperValue, C.J. Hughes, Valley Bell, Zerkle, and Capitol Trucking Companies, McSweeney’s, and Foodfair. He was a volunteer firefighter on the Rome Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, and a volunteer umpire for Fairland Little League and District 11 Umpires. He was so proud to be a member of Sanctuary of Grace where he loved to help with VBS and loving on anyone who walked in the door no matter who they were - because “that’s what Jesus said to do.” The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Erika Harris of Marshall Family Medicine, his buddy, Dr. Ogu of Marshall Nephrology, Dr. Ferguson and Kelly Johnson, APRN, FNP of Marshall Neurology, Drs. Studeny and Rueda of Marshall Cardiology, and their respective care teams; the team at Fresenius Kidney Care; Cabell Huntington Home Health; and Damian Southard, PT of Cabell Huntington Physical Therapy for giving us a few more years with “the bionic man,” and to the staff of Cabell Huntington Hospital 5 North and BICU for their care at the end of his life.
Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, OH, with Rev. Mitch Webb and Damian Southard conducting services, nieces and nephews serving as pallbearers. Burial will follow the service at Miller Memorial Gardens, Miller, OH. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Additionally, celebration of dad’s life and home going will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, the National Kidney Foundation, the National Heart Foundation, or a charity you feel a personal connection to. “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” - I Corinthians 15:55-57.
