Robert Wilton Gibson, 82, of Okeechobee, FL and Barboursville, WV, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024 at West Palm Beach VA Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2024 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Donald Childers. Burial will be in Susie Chapel Cemetery. He was born July 21, 1942 in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Talmadge and Lona Edra Adkins Gibson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Vietnam War. Robert retired from INCO and was owner and operator of Gibson Machine and Hydraulic Shop in Salt Rock. He enjoyed playing pool, woodworking, golf, fishing, water skiing, boating, and in his younger days, "Shot Gun" also enjoyed hunting and riding motorcycles. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Gibson. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Byrd Gibson; daughter, Leisa Ann Gibson and Marty Morris of North Charleston, SC; son, Robert Timothy Gibson and Brenda of Salt Rock; sister, Sharon Sylvester and Gene of Land O’ Lakes, FL; sister-in-law, Linda and Glen Frazier of Salt Rock; grandchildren, Nathan Gibson (Jessie) of Huntington, Justin Gibson (Abigail Hunter) of Boulder, CO, Brittany Holmgren (Chris) of Goose Creek, SC, Marissa Mercer (Brandon) of Moncks Corner, SC; great-grandchildren, Dylan Gibson, Parker Holmgren, Lillian Holmgren, bonus great-granddaughter, Maria Holmgren, Sawyer Mercer, and one on the way; many nieces and nephews; and "Shirley".
