Paulette Louise Wiley (Altizer) of Culloden, West Virginia passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2024, after a prolonged illness, and surrounded by her husband, her children, and her granddaughter. She was born on January 20, 1948, in Man, West Virginia to Chester Andrew Altizer and Helen Louise Altizer (Browning) of Bruno, West Virginia. She was 76.
Paulette is survived by her husband of 54 years, Reverend Thomas Ray Wiley; her children, Deidra Louise Wiley of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ginger Rae Wiley of Chicago, Illinois, and Thomas Anthony Wiley (Shaina Smith) of Hometown, West Virginia; her granddaughters Sophia Jolie Necco of Cincinnati, Ohio and Addison Marie Necco of Bradenton, Florida, and Kynlee and Reagan Smith of Hometown, West Virginia, who loved her dearly and considered her their adoptive grandmother; her sisters Janet Marie Wright of Milton, West Virginia and Patricia Lynn Roberts (Larry Roberts) of Shelby, Ohio; her sister-in-law Sandra Kay Browning of Barboursville, West Virginia; a host of nieces and nephews; and her sweet grand-pets, Hannah, Blue, Polar Michelle, Rory, Okami, and Loki. She is preceded in death by her parents Chester and Helen Altizer; a sister, Diane Walker, and mother and father-in-law, Marion and Frances Wiley (Booth), her beloved uncles Gerald Altizer and Clifford “Pete” Browning, and his lovely wife Jerry.
Paulette brought beauty, color, and sunshine to everyone who had the privilege to know her. Her favorite place was in her garden, among the hundreds of flowers, vegetables, and plants she nurtured during her lifetime. Her green thumb is legendary, and her homegrown tomatoes about as perfect as they come. She loved to preserve the fruits of her labor and made sure her family always had canned or frozen vegetables year-round.
Paulette had a generous, beautiful, and loving spirit and her dedication to her family and friends touched everyone who ever met her. She cared for everyone around her in her family and church. She was a lifelong Christian and enjoyed singing with her husband as he played guitar, or in the choir.
In addition to gardening, Paulette enjoyed bird watching, photography, and traveling to see her daughters in Cincinnati and Chicago. She loved shopping (especially “a good buy”) with her sisters and her daughters, and she made every holiday or birthday a special occasion. She loved the beach and a “sunshine day.” Paulette loved being a grandmother and never wavered in her devotion to Sophia and Addison. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend who loved spending time with her family and making memories that will last a lifetime.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 12 at Wallace Funeral Home in Milton, WV. Visitation will begin at 10am with a funeral service at 11am. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Chapmanville, WV.
Paulette will be remembered for her warmth, laughter, and unwavering love and faith. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
