1937 - 2025

Kenneth Rexford ChambersKenneth Rexford Chambers, age 87, of Culloden, WV, passed away on May 30, 2025. Kenneth was born at home in Danville, WV, on November 14, 1937, to Sidney and Ethel Chambers. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janet, and his brother, John William. He is survived by his children Rexford (Beth) Chambers, Randi (Carter) Payne, and Richard (Terri) Chambers; sisters Rosa Chambers Brown (Stan) and Mary Mitchell (John). He is also survived by his grandchildren Morgan (Chris) Rakay, Eli Chambers, and Logan Payne, and his great-grandchildren Fletcher and Juniper. After graduating from Scott High School, he served as a sergeant in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. Upon returning home, he worked as an accountant in the oil and gas industry.

Kenneth was a man of action, doing what needed to be done without question or hesitation. He was a man of few words— but only until it was time for a good story or life lesson. He was in equal turns pragmatic, resourceful, and creative. He often showed his love and care through teaching others, crafting a solution to a problem, or just “tinkering.” He was a deep well of knowledge: a family historian; a gatherer of useful and entertaining information; a walking maintenance guide for whatever needed fixed or improved; a veritable toy shop for his grandkids. When he wasn’t in the garage, he was likely in his garden or at the grill. Kenneth set a profound example of self-sufficiency— but also of community and care for family. Kenneth was a great man, and an even more exceptional father and papaw.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m., Tuesday June 3 at Wallace Funeral Home in Milton. Funeral service is Wednesday June 4 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Valley View Memorial Park in Hurricane. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Homes for Our Troops or the National Park Foundation. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.
