
John David Chapman, age 84, of Fraziers Bottom, WV, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026 surrounded by family.
Born September 24, 1941 to Garrett Hobert Chapman and Elsie Ellen Perry Chapman.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and a lifelong member of the Freemasons. He lived by strong values such as responsibility, discipline, loyalty and he believed deeply in doing what was right. Though direct by nature, especially with those he loved most, his actions reflected steady care and commitment to family.
John endured significant loss throughout life, including the passing of two of his children, John-Boy Chapman and Lisa Kay Chapman. These hardships shaped him into a person of resilience and resolve. He was practical, hardworking, and careful with money, never spending carelessly and always valuing hard work and self-reliance.
In later years, he found joy in simple pleasures, especially dancing and spending time with others. He enjoyed seeing people happy and appreciated moments of laughter and connection. While not always one to express emotions openly, his love for his family ran deep.
John is survived by his son, Kimper Wade Chapman (Michelle) of Ashton, WV; brother, Robert “Bob” Lee Chapman of Ashton, WV; brother, Stanford Hobert “Hobie” Chapman (Shirley) of Ona, WV; sister, Barbara Kay Camp (Bill) of Montgomery, AL; brother, Garrett “Keith” Chapman (Ingram) of Apple Grove; Orbie Thomas “Tom” Chapman (Donnie) of Fraziers Bottom; granddaughter, Megan Kay Watterson of Apple Grove, WV; granddaughter, Taryn Christi Chapman of Ashton, WV; grandson, Joshua Aaron McCoy of Huntington, WV; granddaughter, Alessiah “Danielle” Hamm (Jackson) of Fraziers Bottom, WV; along with four great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his father, Garrett Hobert Chapman; mother, Elsie Ellen Chapman; son John-Boy Chapman; daughter, Lisa Kay Chapman; sister, Isabell Chapman; brother, Donald Hershal Chapman; sister, Willa “Edna” Baumgardner; brother, Randall Eugene Chapman; brother, Billy Joe Chapman; brother, Paul Kimper Chapman.
Funeral services will be held at Wallace Funeral Home in Milton, WV on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Military honors will be conducted in recognition of his service to our country, and Masonic rites will also be conducted by Lebanon Lodge No. 68, A.F. & A.M., Milton. Burial will be in Apple Grove Memorial Gardens.
