Terry Lee Hoffman, a gentle soul, 79, of Nitro, the guy who loved to talk and tell jokes, left this earth Thursday, September 3, 2026 for his heavenly home. He made preparations by accepting Christ as His Savior at a young age. He had been a member of Davis Creek Church of God, South Charleston. He was a member of the Milton Church of God.
Born at Thomas Memorial Hospital on July 6, 1947, he was the eldest child of George Lee Hoffman and Priscilla Ruth “Doll” Hudson Hoffman, of Davis Creek Road, South Charleston. Later, his family moved to Alum Creek.
Terry was a graduate of Duval High School, Griffithsville, Class of 1966. He spent four years in the Air Force. Almost three of those years were as a fireman at Adair AF Station, Corvallis, Oregon. Also a few months TDY at Walla Walla, Washington at the City County Airport. Then he was at the Bowmark Missile Site at Langley AFB, Virginia. He also served one year in the Army Reserves Special Forces.
He received a certificate in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration from Ben Franklin School. He was a chemical worker at FMC, South Charleston and Carbide/Bayer, Institute from which he retired in 2009.
On Saturday, April 1, 1978, Terry married Shirley Lane Davis of Milton at the Milton Gospel Mission. To this union two years later was born his only child, a daughter Jessica Lane Hoffman.
Terry is survived by those who knew him the longest, his siblings, sister Beverly Sue Blair of South Charleston, brother Dean Hoffman of Cross Lanes, brother Dana Hoffman and wife Darlene of Alum Creek, and sister Debbie Lett of South Charleston.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Hoffman (48 years) and daughter Jessica Hoffman, both of Nitro, whom he loved and adored. Others include aunt Vallie Hudson and uncle Mitch and wife Charlotte Hudson, sisters-in-law Lois Hoffman and Charlotte Davis Vance, brother-in-law Clifford Davis, and special friend Debbie Huffman.
He was preceded in death by his dad George Hoffman (1987), sister Sharon Trimble White (2002), brother Ronnie Hoffman (2022), and mother Priscilla Hoffman (2022). Also sister-in-law Susan Hoffman, brothers-in-law Gary Blair, John Lett, and Wallace Vance. Additionally his parents-in-law Emzie and Maylener Davis.
Terry's interests were church, the Bible, Bible reference books, lots and lots of books including recipe and house books, Karate, basketball, and he even took some piano lessons.
The staff at Paramount Senior Living Center liked him and enjoyed hearing him tell jokes. Special thanks to Karen at Paramount, Jayson from Huntington DAV, and to the Hershel “Woody” Williams VA Medical Center.
Terry succumbed to Parkinson's, Diabetes, Heart Disease and Neuropathy. Service will be conducted Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton by Pastor John Mason and Pastor Victor Keathley. Visitation will be two hours prior to service time. Burial will be in Forest Memorial Park, Milton with military honors.
