Virginia Ruth Midkiff, 86, of Branchland, W.Va., passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. She was born December 12, 1939 in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of the late, William and Malta Sowards. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Leslie "Rod" Midkiff; two sisters, Bobbie Hawkins and Peggy Butcher, and by two brothers, Bill Sowards and David Sowards. She is survived by her daughter, Robin Littell (Randy); son, Jeffrey Midkiff; sisters, Reba Gothard, Carol Fuller, and Pat Hesson (Gary); brother, Buckley Sowards; grandson, Robert Littell; sister-in-law, Eliza Sowards; and a host of other nieces, nephews and family. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2026 at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville with Pastor Bill Spears officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion-Ross Cemetery, Salt Rock. Friends may visit from Noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Online condolences may be sent to www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

Robin & Jeff, I am so sorry to hear about Ruth’s passing. She was always laughing and seemed so full of joy in her heart. When I went to Mt. Zion and played the piano before church started, I would play while people gathered in. Ruth would always be sitting behind me, singing. Sometimes she would sing special songs for the church congregation. She had a very nice voice. These are wonderful memories. Your mother was a fine woman.
