John Leroy Caldwell Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1932 - 2013

JOHN LEROY CALDWELL of Ona, W.Va., passed away May 21, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Alliene M. Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Theo McCormick Caldwell and his brothers and sisters, Ralph, Clyde, Harold, Iva Mae Rider, Hazel Bond and Frances Beckett. He is also survived by brothers and sister Carl, Gene and Anna Wetherholt; children John Burton Caldwell (Robin) and Amy Neal (Bil); stepdaughter Kandi Messinger (Tim); grandchildren Josh, Amanda McClellan (Mike), and Anne-Marie Neal; step- grandchildren Sarah and Kyle Messinger; great-grandchild Kathryn McClellan. Visitation at the Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church, Ona, W.Va., 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 24th and one hour prior to the funeral at Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church which will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25th. The funeral will be conducted by Pastor Paul Meadows and Rev. Tim Messinger. Burial will be in Forest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be special friends and nephews. John was a member of the Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church. He worked many places including Goodyear, Caldwell's Farmers Exchange, Ona, and Caldwell Farm selling farm equipment and farming. John loved his local and extended family dearly. He loved his church family, Shonet's Restaurant, the staff and all his buddies there, his school buddies - he talked about his school days and football continuously. He was class President of Milton High School 1950, President of FFA, Co-Captain of Milton High School football team, State Runner-Up 1949-1950. He had many friends in the farm machinery business. He loved Greg Kirby and his family, Saundra, Cameron and "Pap" Warden for keeping the farm going when he could not do the work. Both of these were like his sons. He would sit in his truck for hours looking over the land. John was a very strong man but his heart was very weak and it could not do the things his body wanted to do. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of Gideon's International. He was the "Honorary Mayor" of Ona. He will be sorely missed by many. Please keep the family in your prayers. Memorial contributions may be made to Cabell Midland FFA Dept, #1 Knight Way, Ona, WV, 25545. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace. Wallace Funeral Home, Milton is in charge of arrangements.

It was such an honor to know and work with Don. I remember my dad and Don would take lunch, and breaks together about every day, and would gather around that old coffee pot in the warehouse and talk about daily life and laugh. My dad ( Max ) had a nick name for Don... the ole goat... Don would always laugh with that big smile he had. - we'll all get together again in heaven some day and will be able to talk for eternity. Our thoughts and prayers also go out to Tonya, and Dave - our love, and prayers are with you all. We are here if anything is needed, and may God bless you all. God is taking good care of Don - no more pain - only complete peace and eternal life......

Just wanted to express my condolences to the family. I always liked John and his family. We have several connections with Amanda as a student with our boys at WVU Tech. John used to call me and my late dad if he thought he had a piece of equipment we might want. God bless all of the family.

JB, Mrs. Caldwell and family. I'm very sorry about the loss of you Dad and Husband. Although I never met him, he sounds like he was a upstanding, wonderful and loved man. I also see that he loved his Lord and I hope that you are comforted in the fact that he is with him in peace and rest at this very time. Once again I am very sorry for your loss and am also very sorry that I was unable to be with you at this time of sorrow. If I can be of help or support just come by or give me a call.

I just wanted the family to know how sorry we are for the loss of John. He will be missed by so many of us. As stated above he was truly the honorary mayor of Ona. It was just hard to tell where you have seen him around this little town in his big red truck. Our love and prayers are with you all and if you need anything at all please let us know. Your friends Mona and Bobby

Alliene & Family, so very sorry for the loss of John, I will always be grateful for how he took my Jason under his wing when we needed it so much. We still talk about how he had a room at your house, how time flies, he was 12 yrs and now 39. We have great memories of time spent with both of you, remembering my CCBOE days when John would call to hear me say Data Processing, thank you for all he left behind and giving to the LORD in so many ways, you are in our thoughts and prayers,
