Rickey Dean Wagner, beloved son, brother, and uncle passed peacefully to be with the Lord Sunday, January 28, 2007 at the Kerrville VA hospital. He was born on September 30, 1952 in Wichita, Kanasa to William Wagner and Lavone Slack Wagner. Rickey grew into a young man who excelled in academics and athletics. Being a 4 year varsity Letterman in baseball, he helped lead Tivy to some of their most successful seasons ever. After graduation and having a choice of colleges to play for, Rickey's patriotism and his inner desire to fight for those who could not fight for themselves, steered his course into the Marine Corps. Unfortunately the fight changed and others began to fight for Rick as he became afflicted with a disease that is misunderstood still today. Even after decades of different types of treatments, psychiatric medicines and enduring thee judgements of others, Rick's heart never changed from his love of God, country, and family. Unable to ever develop any hobbies, he still had many enjoyments, mostly watching classic westerns and being with his family, but his greatest joy was watching his nephew play ball. Rick was preceded in death by his grandmother, Roberta McMoran, and father Bill Wagner.
Rickey is survived by his mother Lavone Wagner of Kerrville, Texas; 2 brothers Dave and wife Sandy, and Randy and wife Veronica; niece Angela, nephew Ryan, aunts, uncles, and cousins and many other family members and friends who loved him will miss him.
Graveside services will be held 1pm, Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007 at Garden of Memories Cemetery with Pastor Jay Dozier officiating the services with Military honors.
Memorial services will be held in February at First Christian Church to be announced later.
Rickey's nephew Ryan wrote a few thoughts to share with the family about his uncle.
Ryan wants us to remember that Rickey was always honest, caring and loving. He never forgot any one's birthday and always had a smile on his face. He could put a smile on any one's face. He never complained about anything. He had a big heart and loved all his extended family and friends.
He loved baseball and went to every baseball game that he could. He especially loved to go to every game that his brother or nephew were in if he possibly could.
Ryan remembers a calm sense of comfort and security in his presence, a charming spirit that filled the space around him.
