
Gerhardt (Herbie) William Herbolsheimer at the age of 91 went to be with his Lord on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at the VA hospital in Kerrville, Texas. He was born on September 16, 1916 in Piece, NE to Ludwig Herbolsheimer and Lena (Bryer) Herbolsheimer. Herbie was Baptized on Oct. 18, 1916, Confirmed May 29, 1929. He was raised on the family farm during the depression years, worked out for room and broad with the neighbors as a young man. Gary worked as a highway maintenance person until he volunteered for the army. After induction Gary was sent to Fort Leavenworth Ka and then to Camp Grant Ill. for 7 weeks basic training. He was assigned to 48th Surgical 128th Evacuation Hospital for a Medical Aid Person at the front lines. He served at Algeria, France, Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, central Europe, Rhineland from 5/21/42 to 11/19/45. After war, jobs were hard to find. Gary worked at the Fredrickson Filling Station at Wayne Nebr. for his sister Rose and brother -in-law Bill Fredrickson. He met Beverly (Boots) Rasmussen there. They married on May 31, 1947 at Elk Pint, SD at the Loins Lutheran Church. They made their home at Souix City, IA where he worked for Blue Bunny Ice Cream Company. Sandra was born to them on 6/14/1948. They later moved to Wayne Ne., in 1948 Gary went to work for Carl Ottle Construction. Kathy was born in 1951. They then moved to Wakefield in 1953 were Gary worked for Jensen & Burdigan. Gary started his own Construction Company in 1958, Gary's Construction was self owned for 40 yrs till 1998. In those years he worked for many people, and taught many young men the tools of the trade. Gary was a member of St John's Lutheran Church of NE, VFW life member for 40 years, American Legion Post 81 in Wakefield for 60 years, volunteer Fireman and Rescue and helped to build the present Fire Station Served 5 yrs on the Draft Board in Ponca at the time it was discontinued Member of St Johns Lutheran Church, where he has continued his membership. Gary and Beverly held a 50 yr Reunion at Souix City in 1997 for his Medical Unit of the African and European Theater. Historical Medical Unit Book (Heroes from and Attic) was placed in Legion Post 81 in Wakefield. They moved to Kerrville in 2001 to be near their daughter and her family. Gerhardt gave his life for his family, Church and his work. He was loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. Gary believe that Christ held the answers to a good life and a long life. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Edna Aubert, Rose Fredrickson; 4 brothers Earl, Eldon, Harlan, Lawrence, and his daughter Kathy.
Gerhardt is survived by his wife of 60 years Beverly Herbolsheimer of Kerrville; daughter Sandra Parker and husband Jim of Lakehills; 2 grandsons James and wife Lisa and Chad and wife Tricia; great grandchildren Alexandria, Makenzie, Sydney and Emma of San Antonio; sister Lyleth Meyer of Pierce, NE; 2 brothers Lyle and wife Lavern of Tilden, NE, and Louis and wife Pat of Hartington, NE; 2 sister in laws Ardith, Lenis of Pierce and Evelyn of Windside and many nieces, nephews and many other friends who love him will miss him.
Visitation will be held 10 till 8 Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007 at Wright's Funeral Parlor in Kerrville, Texas.
Visitation will be held 3pm till 8pm on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007 at Bressler~Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, on Saturday, Oct.6, 2007 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wakefield, NE. with Interment at Wakefield Cemetery in NE.
Memorial services will be held Oct. at the VA hospital chapel in Kerrville, Texas.
