1927 - 2008

George Roy Huffaker at the age of 80 passed away on Friday, March 14, 2008 at his home in Kerrville. He was born on May 30, 1927 in Gainesville, Texas to Boyd & Frances "Winkler" Mincie. Roy married Minnie Williford on Aug. 10, 1947. They spent their early years living and working on ranches in Texas and New Mexico. Roy was a outstanding cutting horse trainer and won his first competition in 1955. The highlight of his career came in 1969 when he rode Jose Uno and won the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) World Championship. He later owned Roy Huffaker Enterprises in Center Point Texas where he, with his son David designed and manufactured horse blankets. Roy was known as a prankster by his friends and family. After retiring, he became an avid camp fire cook. His cooking led to his collecting old recipes, cast iron cookware and building a chick boxes of the style used on trail drives. He was a loyal friend to many and on Sunday mornings, until his health prevented it, he would cook campfire biscuits and coffee at The Place on Cypress Creek Rd in Kerrville. He is preceded in death by his parents. George is survived by his wife of 60 years Ann Huffaker of Kerrville; children Billie Chastain and husband Michael of Austin, David Huffaker of Kerrville, Gene Huffaker and wife Dene of Mountain Home and Frances Nix and husband Jerry of Rocksprings; 6 grandchildren and many other family members and friends who love him will miss him. Roy's life will be celebrated by family and friends on Friday, March 21, 2008 at 1pm, at The Place on Cypress Creek Rd. Kerrville.
