1925 - 2008

William R. Phillips at the age of 83 passed from this live on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the Kerrville VA hospital. He was born on January 29, 1925 in Skiatook, Ok. to Jacob Phillips and Martha "Benge" Phillips. The family soon moved to the Panhandle of Texas near the soon to be town of Borger. In 1949, he married LaVaugh Martin in Dana, Ind, and they made their home in Borger where their two children were born. He was active in the oil company his father formed from World War II until the 1960s. The family moved to Marshall, Mich, in 1966, and Bill worked for Union Pump Company until he retirement. In 1988, he and LaVaughn moved to Kerrville. Bill was a volunteer at the Cowboy Artist Museum for several years. He was an accomplished artist who painted with pastels and oils. He was an avid reader and loved to have conversations with friends on almost any subject. Bill was a source of encouragement and hope to all whose lives he touched and will be sorely missed by his family and friends. William served in the U.S. Army form 1944 till 1945. He is preceded in death by his parents. William is survived by his children Will Phillips II of Austin, Texas and Elaine Bicknell and husband Bruce of Hunt, Texas; grandson Abbot Low Moffat III of California; sister Mary Francis Stark and husband Ed of Colorado; niece Shirley Fancher and husband Ed of Amarillo; several other nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends who love him will miss him. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2008, from 3 till 5 pm, at Elaine's Table in Hunt.
