Jean S. Koch at the age of 97 passed away on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009 at a local care center in Kerrville, Texas. She was born on March 16, 1911 in San Antonio, Texas to Robert and Jean Spence. Jean was raised on a farm in Anderson County, attended schools in Palestine and was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church. She married Ted Koch and moved to San Antonio, where she was employed at the Texas Employment Commission. Jean moved to Eagle Pass and worked for the Texas Employment Commission there for many years. When she retired, she moved back to Palestine to care for her mother. Her last years were spent in Kerrville where she enjoyed the beauty of the Texas Hill Country and many friends. Jean was an avid reader and loved traveling abroad. Her treasures on Earth were her family, her friends and her pets. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers John McKellar Spence of Harare, Zimbabwe and Robert Morris Spence of Coahuila, Mexico.. Jean is survived by her sister Dorothy Spence DeBona; nieces and nephews Elizabeth Spence Sellers and Carlos Sellers of Coahuila, Mexico, Roberto Spence and Dora Spence of Sabinas, Mexico, Janet Spence Coaton and Dudley Coaton of Houston, Texas and Jean DeBona Dullnig and Robert of San Antonio and several great-nieces, nephews, great-great-nieces and friends who love her will miss her. A Memorial graveside services will be held 11am, Monday, Feb. 23, 2009 in Palestine City Cemetery, Palestine Texas.
