Lavonne K Tawney at the age of 72 passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at a Kerrville Texas hospital. She was born on March 21, 1937 in Topeka, Kansas to James and Letha Tawney. Lavonne was a School Teacher and a Principal for the Government all her life until she retired. She is preceded in death by her parents.

In my many years of teaching Lavonne was the ultimate principal. She always worked harder than any of her teachers. She got me involved in school improvement which enlarged my scope of the whole school process. I remember many pleasant evenings that Lavonne spent at our dining room table talking and enjoying the good wines of Europe.

I worked with Lavonne in Osterholz-Scharmbeck American Elementary School. She was the the best administrator I ever worked with - quiet, competent, worthy of respect and trust, hard-working and blessed with a sense of humor. She brought the school through some difficult moments as staff members passed away unexpectedly. Lavonne had a significant impact on the culture of the school and on my professional career.
