
E.B. Miles, 95, of Kerrville, Tx. passed away on Sat. Feb. 20, 2010, in his home. He was born Nov 15, 1914 at Slate Springs, MS to Joseph Donald Miles and Audie Burlison Miles. EB received a basketball scholarship to East Ms Jr college and later graduated Ms State University w/a BS degree in Education. After teaching high school science for one term he resigned to work for Memphis Light, Gas, and Water in Memphis Tn. In early 1944, EB enlisted as a private in the US Army Chemical Warfare Service. He attended Officer Candidate School and graduated as a Second Lieutenant. He was assigned to the Chemical Warfare Depots at Huntsville, Ala and Niagara Falls, NY. In early 1946, he received his discharge with the rank of captain. He returned to Ms State University and spent 2 yrs. studying mechanical engineering and teaching part time in the engineering dept. After graduation in 11948, EB was hired by Magnolia Petroleum Co (Mobil Oil) in Beaumont, Tx. In 1951, he married Janelle Rogers from Pt Neches, Tx. His service with Mobil was spent providing comprehensive engineering service for capital projects and plant operation. After retirement in 1979 from Mobil, EB worked 2 yrs as a consulting engineer. In 1981, he and Jan moved to Salem, Or for a year, then came back to Texas and bought a home in Waco. They moved to Kerrville in 1991. EB volunteered at Christian Assistance Ministry, helped w/the new building of the Riverside Nature Center, and spent many hours at Kerrville Arts & Cultural Center, volunteering as a janitor and later as a docent, earning money for them through Mobil Matching Funds program, He loved to work in the yard, always had a beautiful garden, loved playing the guitar and was a life master bridge player. EB was a member of First United Methodist Church of Kerrville, and Meals on Wheels in Waco, River Hills Country Club and CAM. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
EB is survived by his wife of 59 years Janelle Miles of Kerrville; 2 daughters Jan Harrigan and husband Tom of Austin, and Brenda Miles of San Antonio; son Greg Miles of Boulder, Ca; 2 grandsons Morgan Moses of San Antonio and Zachary Moses of Austin; sister Bereice Morris of Europa, Ms. and many other family members and friends who love him will miss him.
Memorial services will be 2pm, Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at First United Methodist Church of Kerrville.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Kerrville Arts & Cultural Center or a charity of your choice.
