
James Rose at the age of 87 passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2011 Fredericksburg Texas care center. He was born on June 19, 1923 in Oakland, California to Arlie and Helen Rose. James graduated from Richmond High School in Richmond, Indiana in 1942 and then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served his country, he was discharged in May of 1949. He married Martha Jane Williams of Preble County, Ohio. In 1948 he entered Earlham College and graduated in 1952 with a Marketing degree. James worked for a short period of time in Richmond, and then was employed with the A,.C Nielsen Company of Chicago, Illinois. He was transferred to Louisville, Kentucky and they resided there until 1990. He was a 33 yr. member of the Lynnhurst United Church of Christ and served as the Scoutmaster for many years, and also taught Sunday school to 12- 14 years old. James received his master Mason degree on November 21, 1958, and 32nd degree on February 23, 1959. He was and endowed member of Bandera Chapter #643, Order of the Eastern Star, and also a life member of Jefferson Court, Order of the Amaranth, serving as their Royal Patron for several years, and then as Grand Royal Patron of Kentucky. He also served the International Order of the Amaranth as Supreme Trustee, and 5 years as a member of the philanthropic Diabetes Board. James also was a dual member of Baytown Chapter #1- Baytown Texas. In 1990 they moved to Kerrville to be near his sister, the late Phyllis Rose DeVore. While living in Kerrville he served as Master of the Kerrville Lodge in 1996 and Kerrville Chapter #24 as Worthy Patron. He was an endowed member of Kerrville Lodge and received his 50 year Masonic pin in April of 2009. James was a member of First United Methodist Church of Kerrville. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arlie & Helen Rose, sister Phyllis DeVore.
James is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Jane Rose of Kerrville; niece Suzanne Brock and husband Jamie of Houston, Texas; nephew David Devore and son Travis of Houston, Texas; and many great nieces, nephews; extended family of Kerrville Cindy and Ray Scarborough, Damen Scarborough and family, Melissa, Brianna and Brian Lesack, and Chad Scarborough and family of Kyle; Richmond Indiana family Terry and Donna Kitchel, Brandon, Thomas and family and Britney and Dean Brandt and daughter Ashton (Jim's great granddaughter and many friends in Louisville Kentucky and Nashville Tennessee.
No local services will be held.
Graveside memorial services will be held in Earlham Cemetery in Richmond Indiana at a later date with Reverend Larry Van Camp officiating the services.
