On Feb. 1, 2012, Joan Marie Kennedy went to make her new home in Heaven.
She was born in Oshkosh, Wis., to John and Marie Zellmer on April 14, 1936.
Joan is survived by her love, John Rohmfeld, and her only daughter, Valerie Kennedy. Her sisters and brothers, Nancy Pearce, Mary Rausch and Kay Otto from Arizona, and Gail Bartel, Jack, David and Gary Zellmer of Oshkosh, Wis., will miss her dearly.
She was a vivacious woman, who freely volunteered for the mentoring program with Kerrville Independent School District, community benefits, civic organizations and any fundraising activities. She was actively involved with the Tierra Linda garden club, local tennis groups, a violin orchestra group, the Kerrville arts and theater and anything else that she was asked to help organize or attend. She made several donations for children and families at Nimitz Elementary, where her daughter currently teaches. Her giving ways and willingness to help others was an example we all should follow.
Her smile, love of life, zest for fun adventure and her friendly caring traits remain in all who have had the privilege in knowing her. She will be greatly missed, but always remembered.
A celebration of life gathering will be held in her honor from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012. Please contact her family for further information.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society to help stop this ugly disease.
The family of Joan Kennedy wishes to thank the staff at Alpine Terrace and the service personnel from Hospice for their love, care and support during the difficult times, and we wish to extend our sincere thanks to the friends who prayed, held our hands and advised us day after day. You all helped to make her final days special.
