
The Reverend Dwight Brown died at home on October 14, 2012 in the loving company of his wife and family. Rev. Brown, born November 4, 1927, was a retired Unitarian Universalist Minister who moved to Kerrville in 2004. His Kerrville Unitarians Universalist friends and Peterson Hospice were a great comfort to him in his last days on earths journey. He was a great intellect who was curious about everything and never stopped learning. He loved his family and friends, computers, writing, books, sailing, good food, good company and good conversations, and demonstrated a great sense of humor throughout his life.
He served churches with great dedication in Trenton, NJ; Calgary Alberta, Canada; Dallas, TX, and Shaker Heights, OH. He also served the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) in an administrative leadership capacity at their Headquarters in Boston, MA, and District Offices in New York City and Ft Worth, TX.
Rev. Browns many accomplishments in his ministerial career included walking with Dr. Martin Luther King in the Selma, AL marches, and providing abortion counseling for those seeking abortion pre and post Roe vs Wade. While serving as the Executive Director of the Southwest District, he created and led the UU Southwest District Leadership Experience for congregational members in his district, which is named in his honor.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Marie, and their children Janet Brown of Dallas, Deborah Brister of Austin, Stephanie Murray of Brownwood, TX, and David Brown of Boston, MA, as well as eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The Rev. Mark Skrabacz will lead a Celebration of Life at the Unitarian Universalist (UU) Church of the Hill Country, 960 Barnett St., Kerrville, TX, on Saturday, November 3 at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the UU Church of the Hill Country, the UU Fellowship, or Peterson Hospice, all of Kerrville, or the Dwight and Marie Brown Dormitory Building Fund, UBarU Retreat and Conference Center, 227 UBarU Drive, Mt. Home, TX 78058.
