Alexander George Scharmann of Boerne and Bandera, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at a hospital in Jourdanton.
Alex was adopted by Edmund and Valentina Scharmann in 1950 and not knowing his actual birth date, they gave him February 14th which was the same birthday as Valentina.
Alex attended Boerne Schools and served in the United States Army for two years. He was very proud of his service to his country and those that serve. Alex had various jobs but was most proud of the many years that he spent as a custodian with the Boerne ISD working with teachers and little children. Students would frequently stop him and thank him or say hello which really made his day. He loved Texas History, his dogs, antiques, metal detecting and woodworking but his greatest joy was helping others. Al would and has, literally, given the shirt off his back to those in need.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Valentina and his brother, John Scharmann. He is survived by a host of friends and relatives and he was humbled and grateful for them all.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at the Center Point United Methodist Church in Center Point, Texas at 4:30 pm on Sunday afternoon, September 15th, 2013. At Als request, he will be buried in the Center Point Cemetery which has the largest number of Texas Rangers buried there.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Bandera Public Library, Bandera, Texas 78003 in his name.
Happy Trails, Al, and God Bless You!
