STANFORD CURTIS KEY

Stanford Curtis Key, a longtime resident of Silsbee, Texas passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at the age of 78 at his home in the loving arms of his wife.

Born March 11, 1926, in Riverside, Texas he was a devoted family man to his wife and children. He was preceded in death by daughters, Erma Kay Key in 1951 and Diana Ward in 2003, brother, Robert D. Key in 1991 and sister, Nella Hairr in 1999.

He is survived by his wife Bobbi; sons, Robert E. Key, Sr. and Glenda of Silsbee, Jimmy Simmons and wife Sue of Boyd; daughters, Patti Womack and husband Charlie of Kountze, Pamela Hollyfield and husband Tommy of Lumberton, Debra Hardin and husband Leo of Amarillo, Bobby Ward, husband of Diana, of Roanoke, Janice Thompson and husband Donald , and Charlotte Golden and husband Bill of Ft. Worth.

“Papa Key” was also survived by twenty-six loving grandchildren, fifty-six great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter and by man's best friend, “PeeWee”.

He was a Veteran of WW2 and served in the Army Air Force from August, 1944 to August 1946. He was a Private First Class, 17th Tow Target Squadron and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze Star, Good Conduct medal, three overseas service bars and a Victory Ribbon.

He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad in 1989 and then worked for the Lumberton School District and retired again in 1997.

He diligently served in the local Piney Woods AA with a sobriety date of December, 1979. He gave God all glory and thanks for his daily bread and faithfully took His message to his family and friends. He traveled the state to the prisons to help the inmates in any way to be delivered from the stronghold of alcoholism.

Serving as pallbearers are his faithful brothers of the Piney Wood AA: Gary Boddie, Gus Henry, Jeff Tarbok, Wayne Cleveland, Lawrence Kukendall and Randy Wheeler.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 25, 2004 at Farmer Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday, June 24, 2004. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Huntsville, Texas at 3 p.m., June 25, 2004.
