
Thelma Callaway of Silsbee passed away Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Silsbee Oaks Health Care.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2005 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee. Interment will follow in Franks Branch Cemetery in Fred.
Thelma was born October 17, 1922 in Round Pond, Maine to Bert and Marion Steer. She graduated from Bristol High School in 1941. She was a payroll clerk at South Portland Shipyard during World War II.
On December 30, 1945, she married Scott Callaway in her parent’s home in Round Pond, Maine. They moved to Louisiana and Texas to follow Scott’s career in the oilfield. After Scott’s retirement from Haliburton, they opened and operated Scott’s Marina on Toledo Bend Lake for 10 years before moving to Silsbee, Texas in 1982. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Fred.
She is survived by her sons Bert Callaway and wife, Beverly, of Silsbee, Ronnie Callaway and wife, Kathy, of Beaumont; daughter Gwen Gore and husband, Stanley, of Silsbee; grandchildren Chris Callaway and wife, Danielle, of Silsbee; Kim Bubela and husband, Douglas, of Silsbee; Bobby Gore and wife, Kim, of Silsbee; Marcus Gore and wife, Trina, of Houston; Debbie Hawthorne and husband, Lenox, of Silsbee; and Monique Gore of Silsbee; great-grandchildren Samantha Callaway, Kenndall Stone, Krista Callaway, Sydnie Callaway, Caleb Bubela, Jordan Gore, Madisyn Gore, Luke Gore, Nicholette Hawthorne and Kael Hawthorne. She is also survived by her sister Bethiah Callahan and husband, Dick, of Round Pond, Maine.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Scott Callaway, son Harry Al Callaway, her parents, two brothers, Mertland Steer and Harold Steer, and two great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Katherine Grace Gore.
