MINNIE OLA MARIE (BARNES) RICHARDSON
A longtime Silsbee resident Minnie Ola Richardson passed away peacefully on July 20, 2005, after a lifetime of devotion to her family, to the United Methodist Church and to the citizens of Hardin County with her husband, former County Judge Fletcher W. Richardson.
She was born July 30, 1916 in Ged, Louisiana, to David and Elma Barnes. She was raised in Vinton, Louisiana. Minnie Ola attended Chenier Business College in Beaumont and graduated from Lillie Jolly School of Nursing in Houston. She was a staff nurse in the college Health Department at Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville. She married in 1940 and moved to Silsbee to raise a family and assist her husband in his law practice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister Doris Barrios and a granddaughter, Mary Richardson.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses Pat and Betty Richardson of Pantego, Texas; Gene and Shannon Richardson of Durango, Colorado; Cynthia and Frank Roberts of Silsbee; Sylvia and Jim O’Brien of Beaumont; Helen and Wolford Niezek of Palmer, Alaska. She is also survived by three sisters Edna Mae McDonald of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Barbara Malone and Jeanette Holland both of Vinton and extended family, Neva Richardson Rice of Tarkington Prairie, Alice Street of Beaumont and Bubba Freeman of McKinney, Texas. She was a loving grandmother to her seventeen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all of her caregivers during her last years, especially Janie Dancer and Clara Powell.
Funeral services will be Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial to follow at Knupple Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
