JOHN ELLIS BAKER

John Ellis Baker was born in Vidor, Texas on August 11, 1927 to John Martin Baker and Amy Eaves and departed this life for his heavenly home on November 24, 2005. John moved to Evadale in 1961 and spent many years as a justice of the peace and as a security guard at Temple-Inland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hester McNeil Baker, son John Martin Baker; brothers Ted, Donald, Arthur and Raymond Baker and sisters Lorane Gloede and Amy Lee Sellers.

He is survived by wife Virginia Baker of Evadale; step-sons John Griffith and wife Cindy Of Spurger and Rex Griffith and wife Vanessa of LaGrange; stepdaughters Beth Shaffer and husband Jeff and Linda Georgas and husband Carey all of Silsbee. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

John was an avid outdoorsman, loving hunting and fishing. He was a veteran of World War ll Navy Veteran and a member of Evadale Masonic Lodge and order of the Eastern Star. Services will be held at Central Baptist Church in Evadale on Hwy 105 at 2:00 p.m., Saturday November 26 with interment in Williamson Cemetery in Vidor, with Masonic Services. Services will be conducted by Pastor Shannon Kilpatrick. Visitation will be November 25, 2005 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Freedom Fellowship Building fund or a church of your choice,

My fondest memories of Mr. Baker were going to the barber shop with my father when I was a little girl. "Johnny", as I knew him, used to tell me he was going to cut my ears off with his scissors... hehe. I always went in there with my ears covered with my hands. I was fascinated by his cuckoo clock. When I grew up I used to see him when he came to the bank. He always made it a point to say hello. He was a good man.

We are so sadden to hear of Uncle Johnny's death. He was such a kind and gentle man and he will be missed by all who loved and knew him. Our hearts and prayers go out for you, Virginia.
