Funeral services for Daniel Ivison ‘Mutt’ Musgrove, 82, of Gilchriest are 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with interment following in Votaw Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Musgrove died February 3, 2006 at Baptist Hospital in Orange.
Daniel Musgrove was born May 1, 1923 in Loeb and grew up in Votaw and Kountze. He left school to go to CC Camp. After CC Camp, he went to WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his bravery.
After coming home from the war, Mutt had a 30 year career with Bethlehem Steel, where he was superintendent of the hull department. He loved the beach where he enjoyed many hours with family and friends at his home in Gilchriest, Texas. Mutt and his brother built a shrimp boat. He became captain of that boat, which he named “Captain Ebby” to honor his father.
Mutt is preceded in death by his parents, John Ebby and Willie Reynolds Musgrove and two brothers, Truman and John Edd Musgrove.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen Musgrove of Winnie; six children, Dannye Lightfoot of Andrews, Gwen Sparks of Fannett, Sharon McMillan of Kountze, Becky Overstreet of Beaumont, Denise Stephenson of Livingston and James Musgrove of Port Bolivar and sister Mildred Builderback of Kountze. He had numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
