Edward Emanuel Hughes, Jr., 85, died on Friday, May 2, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center in Livingston.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial following in Resthaven Cemetery. Dr. Scott Moody will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday, May 3, 2008 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
Eddie was born on September 29, 1922 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Edward E. Hughes, Sr. and Mamie Daugherty Hughes. He graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1941. Eddie enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served his country proudly during World War II. In 1947, he went to work for Sun Pipe Line and retired in 1983. During these years Eddie worked in the Beaumont area, West and South Texas, Louisiana and Portland, Texas. Eddie and his wife Henrietta retired in Silsbee and had moved to the Gardens in Livingston in recent years.
Eddie and Henrietta McDonald Hughes were married for over 65 years and their love and commitment to each other was evident as they enjoyed all the seasons of their lives together. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Silsbee and also attended First Methodist Church of Livingston. Eddie gave of his time and efforts over the years to many areas of church leadership, the Lions Club, youth sports coach and athletic booster clubs in each community where his family lived. He was also a lifetime Mason. Eddie loved to be on the golf course and equally enjoyed the friendships he made while playing the game.
Eddie is survived by his son and daughter in law, Bob and Janet Hughes of Buna and daughter and son in law, Becky and Greg Martin of Livingston. "Grandfather" leaves his legacy to five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. His sister in law Evelyn McDonald of Beaumont and brother in law Kenneth Rayburn of Little Rock, Arkansas also survive him.
Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta McDonald Hughes, his parents, his sister, Elizabeth Rayburn, brother in law Ernest McDonald, brother and sister in law, Clyde and Gertie Baker and his mother and father in law, Scott and Jimmye McDonald.
Edward's grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers and his nephews as honorary pallbearers.
