
Charles "Charlie" Richard, 82, went to be with his heavenly Father on November 12, 2009. He was born in Daisetta, Texas but lived most of his life in the Silsbee/Lumberton area. After serving a short time in the Maritime Service, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. In 1947 Charlie began working at Sinclair Oil and Gas Company; he stayed with the company through several reorganizations and retired from ARCO in 1985.
Charlie was preceded in death by his grandson Aaron Lee Hood.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Richard of Lumberton; son Charles D. Richard and wife Kathy of Lumberton; son Paul Randall (Randy) Richard of Silsbee; daughter Gwen Hughes and husband Ralph of Lake Charles, LA; daughter Barbara C. Hood and husband Kenneth of Beaumont; four step-daughters, Julie Odie of Beaumont, Amy Shows of Silsbee, Lori Lofton of Groves, and Tomi Tolpo of Lumberton. Charlie also is survived by his sister Loary Hutto of Lumberton, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Farmer Funeral home in Silsbee on Sunday November 15, 2009 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be on Monday November 16, 2009 at 10:00 am at the funeral home with a 1:00 pm burial service at the Catholic Cemetery in Liberty, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a church or charity of choice.
Charlie will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband and a quite mannered, kindhearted man. He loved to work in his yard; he was an avid dancer and enjoyed dancing with his wife one final time at the Resident's Senior Prom in September, 2009 at Vidor Manor Nursing Home. The family would like to thank the supportive staff at Vidor Manor Nursing Home/Vidor Health and Rehabilitation Center. Special appreciation is also extended to Dr. Edward Collins and staff for their care and support.
