Silsbee businessman and rancher Buford Edward Curtis, 71, died Friday, December 11, 2009 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas after a short struggle with cancer. Born in Silsbee, Texas October 28, 1938 to Edward and Luetta Curtis. The Silsbee native graduated from Silsbee High School in 1957 and attended Lamar University.
As a community leader and businessman, Buford served as President of Siltex, Inc. for several years, an investment partnership with other Silsbee business men. He owned and operated Siminole Production Company and was a partner in GP Polo, Land Development Company of Central Texas. He established Curtis Oilfield Services in 1967, and operated the business in Texas and Louisiana until age seventy when retired and began full-time ranching in Spurger, Texas, which he thoroughly loved.
Buford was a charter member and active member of New Beginnings Assembly of God Church in Evadale, Texas. Survivors include high school sweetheart, love of his life, and wife of over 51 years, Cherrie Jo Ennis Curtis. He is survived also by his children, son Eddie Curtis and wife Mary, daughters Mary Russell, Jena Hugon, Andra Burrell and husband Pat all of Silsbee. Twelve grandchildren Trey Curtis and wife Stephanie of Austin, Brian Curtis and wife Jennifer of Silsbee, Stephen Curtis of Lumberton, USAF Staff Sergeant Aaron Thomas currently serving in Kuwait, Addie Orsak and husband Kyle, Adrian Hugon, Max Hugon of Silsbee, Paden Russell of Austin, Ty Russell of Silsbee, Marissa Burrell, Lizzie Burrell and Cheri Burrell of Silsbee. Great grandson Bryce Orsak of Silsbee.
Buford was the oldest of five brothers Ray Gene Curtis and wife Linda, Jerry Curtis and wife Kathi of Silsbee, Tommy Curtis and wife Linda of Lumberton, Jimmy Curtis and wife Khadija of Odenton, Maryland. Many nieces and nephew. Special friend like son Kammy Parker and office daughters Terry Pickering and Lisa Cooper. Buford leaves his business to his best friend and son Eddie Curtis. Buford leaves behind his loyal employees who he always referred to as my guys.
Buford was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Luetta Curtis.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, December 14, 2009 at First Assembly of God Church in Silsbee with interment following at Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home.

We PRAYED MANY PRAYERS WHEN WE HEARD OF BUFORD'S ILLNESS FOR HE AND ALL HIS FAMILY (ESPECIALLY YOU AND THE CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN). GOD HAS A PLAN FOR ALL OF US AND HIS PLAN FOR BUFORD WAS TO COME INTO HIS HOUSE..JUST CONTINUE TO HAVE YOUR STRONG FAITH AND GOD WILL ALWAYS BE THERE FOR YOU. SO SORRY WE DID NOT GET TO COME BUT DARRELL HAD ALL OF HIS HEART TESTS DONE FOR HIS YEARLY CHECK UP ON FRIDAY AND HE WAS SO TIRED..IT TOOK ALL DAY FOR THEM TO DO THEM..HIS HEART RATE IS IN THE 40'S AT ALL TIMES AND AFTER HE HAD ALL THE TESTS DONE HE WAS JUST WORN OUT.
