Lawrence  GordonFuneral services for Lawrence Gordon, 76, of Silsbee will be 2:00 pm Thursday, January 7, 2009 at Farmer Funeral Home with interment following in Cunningham Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Gordon died January 3, 2010 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

A native and lifelong resident of Silsbee, Lawrence worked as an inspector for the Texas Highway Department before retiring in 1977. He also worked as a superintendent from 1977-1991 for Gatlin Asphalt Co., W R Boyd Construction and William Brothers Construction.

Mr. Gordon loved trotline fishing on the Neches River and cooking for his family and friends, especially chicken and dumplings, for which he was widely known. He was also ready to lend a helping hand to anyone when able.

Lawrence in survived by his loving wife of 55 years Ruth Gordon of Silsbee; sons Terry Gordon and wife Debbie and Lyn Gordon and Mary, all of Silsbee; sisters Nola Whitmire of Silsbee and Lila Loftin of Fred; grandchildren Laura Gordon, Ryan Gordon and Rebecca Gordon and great grandchildren Dylan Collins, Larkin Collins, Leland Bodin and Ivy Stewart.

Ruth, We were so sorry to hear about your husband. We know that you had many wonderful years together. We should all be so lucky to have a husband that was as caring as Lawrence was.

Ruth, we are so sorry for your loss. Gordon was such a help to Art at the Highway Dept. He made his job so much easier. He helped us move once. I can just see his smile across Brookshire's or Walmart as he came toward us. He always had something to kid Art about. Art really admired him and he was a true friend and helper. He helped so many people. May God bless all of you and comfort you.
