Funeral services for Lydia "Maw" Mathis, 72, of Spurger will be 2pm Friday, March 5, 2010 at Farmer Funeral Home with interment following in Turner Branch Cemetery. Visitation will begin 5pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mathis died March 2, 2010 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont.

She was a native of Fred and life long resident of Spurger.

Mrs. Mathis is survived by husband Raymond Mathis of Spurger; two sons Thomas and wife Maevone Mathis and Henry and wife Sharon Mathis, all of Fred; two daughters Annette and husband James Plaunty of Silsbee and Pamela and husband Tony Bertrand of Spurger; three sisters, Annie Lee Gore of Willis, Mae Bell Baldwin of Kirbyville and Ardell Hamm of Spurger; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Lydia was a longtime active volunteer with the Spurger VFD where she always cooked and was there for the guys. She was lovingly known as "Maw" by all who knew her.

Aunt "Whatchamacallit" Lydie you will truly be missed. I remember not being able to say your name and so I started calling you Aunt Whatchamacallit. And everytime I would say it you would get tickled. Remembering the good ole times with you.
