Juanell Laverne Jones Langston Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1929 - 2010

Juanell Laverne Jones LangstonJuanell Jones Langston, 81, of Lumberton, Texas went to be with the Lord on September 16, 2010. The graveside service will be at 4:00 PM Sunday, September 19 at Village Mills Cemetery, Village Mills, Texas, and the family will be receiving friends at 5:00 pm Saturday, September 18 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee, Texas.

She was married for 57 years to Max Langston, who preceded her in death in March, 2005. Her parents, G. A. and Nathalee Barclay Jones, also preceded her in death.

Juanell was a graduate of Warren High School, Port Arthur Business College and Lamar University. After doing secretarial work for many years, she began her teaching/coaching career and retired from Warren ISD in 1989. She was a life member of the Hardin County Retired Teachers Association, a charter member, past president and "Silver Sister" of Gamma Phi Chapter of Texas Alpha Delta Kappa, Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and served as organist for many years. Juanell and Max were avid Lamar University girls and boys basketball fans for over 20 years and she bowled for 59 years and was past president, life member and Hall of Fame member of the Beaumont Women's Bowling Association. She and Max saw most of the United States as she participated in over 40 national bowling tournaments. Juanell was a charter member of the Texas 600 Club and life member of the National 600 Club.

She loved gospel and country music as well as sports. She played the piano for the church from 6th grade until graduation and sang in and accompanied a gospel quartet while in high school and then, she played the piano and organ at churches wherever she lived.

She loved people and was happiest when she saw others achieve their goals. Just don't ask her a question if you didn't want an honest answer, because she often said "what you see is what you get, and honesty and love are the only things I can give."

Juanell is survived by her daughter, Laverne Danos and her husband Art and their children Aaron (Vanessa), Andrew and Alan (Stefanie) and their grandchildren Kiersten, Alexis, Ella and Max; her daughter, Lynda Wilson and her husband Jim and their children Leann McNulty (Chris), Tim (Kim) and Janna Royer (Jamey) and their grandchildren Aleisha, Harrison, Kyler, Kinley, Keely, Brady, Brandon and Jesse. She is also survived by sister Melnee Davis, niece Lena Davis, nephews Randy (Debbie) Davis and Jack (Harriett) Langston and many special friends who have been by her side in good and bad times.

The family would like to thank some of those many people who helped her recently including Dr. Packard and his staff at the Wound Care Center in the Outpatient Pavilion at Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth, Providence Home Health and Odyssey Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Friends of the Public Library, PO Box 8847, Lumberton, TX 77657 or the BWBA Nell Langston Senior Award, c/o Gloria Frazier, 1945 Hickory Drive, Vidor, TX 77662.

Although it has been over ten years since I last saw Nell, she and Max have always remained in my thoughts because of their kindness. She was a very special lady, I will never forget her passion for supporting the Lady Cards and each individual player, and she remained that way even when I returned home to Scotland, she still stayed in touch and treated me as though I was one of her girls. I hope she now rests in peace, thoughts are with all of the family, Donna

I wish we had spent more time together over the past 20 years. You & Max and my grandparents were more than relatives, y'all were friends as well. Thank you for all you did with our families. LaVerne and Lynda, I am so sorry for the loss of your momma. Words will never do justice to the pain you feel but I am keeping you all in my prayers.
