
Maybelline 'Meb' Walters Richard, 88, of Lumberton, surrounded by her family, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2:21 PM in Baptist Hospital Beaumont after a short illness. Born in Orange November 13, 1922, she resided most of her life in Fred, where she met Raymond Victor Richard, the love of her life. They were married March 1, 1941 and he preceded her in death on June 12, 1998. Meb resided in Lumberton for the last 11 years.
Also preceding her in death are her parents, Lemuel and Margaret Tanton Walters; three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by two sisters, Earline Bell and husband Tommy of Spurger and Azine Waldrep and husband Harvey of Lake Jackson; six children, Teresa Dean and husband Richard of Lumberton, Margaret 'Polly' Brann and husband James G. Jr. of Crocket, Joseph 'Tony' Richard and wife Penny of Bevil Oaks, Raymond Patrick Richard and wife Mary of Fred, Mary Diane Richard of Lumberton and Jerome Richard and wife Teresa of Silsbee; ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
Meb was well known as a woman with a big heart. You never came to her home and left hungry and her door was always open to help a friend in need. She loved the outdoors and spent her years camping, fishing, hunting squirrel and arrow heads. She loved flowers and most of all, hummingbirds.
A memorial to celebrate her life will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Fred, located at 20468 FM 92. Immediately following the services, a covered dish luncheon will be held, with the burial of her ashes at Franks Branch Cemetery next to Raymond to conclude the day. Flowers and plants are welcome but donations to the American Heart Association in her honor will also be appreciated.
