Mary Evelyn Wallace Reeves Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1928 - 2011

Mary Evelyn was born in Lunita, Louisiana to Van Buren Wallace Jr. and Edna Mae McLeod Wallace. She has been a resident of Silsbee, TX for over eighty years. Mary Evelyn's entire education was in Silsbee schools and she was a member of the graduating class of 1946. Mary was married for 49 years to Emory Reeves, a retired Santa Fe Railroad engineer, who passed away in 1995. Emory and Mary were blessed with five children - Lynda, Johnny, Kyle, Robbie and Jola. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother throughout the years. Mary was a talented homemaker, cook and Christian Care volunteer. During WWII she began making candy to send to her brothers serving our country. She continued the practice of making candy for over 68 years, and it became a treasured and much anticipated Christmas tradition. The candy craft was passed on to her daughters and granddaughter.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Van Buren and Edna Wallace, her husband Emory Reeves, her two sons Johnny and Kyle Reeves and two brothers, Van and Lindsey Wallace. She is survived by her three daughters, Lynda and husband Doug Ingram, Robbie Reeves and Jola and husband Terry Waggener; her two daughters in law Joyce Jones and Ann Reeves and two brothers S.A. 'Foots' Wallace and Linn Wallace and wife Barbara. Mary cherished moments with her eleven grandchildren: Dennis Reeves and wife Tammy, Chris Ingram and wife Lisa, Leslie Ainsworth and husband Trey, Greg Ingram, Trent Jones and wife Stephanie, Jeff Ingram and wife Melissa, Joseph Ingram and wife Talitha, Heather Wilson and husband Jody, Keith Clark, Richie Waggener and Katie Craigen and husband Joey. She also had the joy of sixteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Evelyn was a vibrant, inspiring and strong lady. She loved music and dancing, even in her last days her foot tapped when she heard music. Join in the celebration of our mother's life - in her honor, please wear something RED.

Mary Evelyn passed away April 19, 2011 at Silsbee Oaks Healthcare. A gathering of her family and friends will be Thursday, April 21, 2011, 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee. Her funeral service will be Friday, April 22, 2011 at 10:00 am at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with Nancy Ratchford officiating. Burial will follow at Knupple Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Silsbee Oaks, Baptist Hospital and Odyssey Hospice for their kind care of Mary Evelyn during her last days. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Christian Care Center, 415 West Avenue P, Silsbee TX 77656, or to the charity of your choice.

My heart goes out to each of you during this time of great sorrow. I know each of you will find comfort in Our Lord. Our parents were class mates, so I think that made us "cousins" or so we thought. I too greive for the loss. You are in our prayers.
