Funeral services for George G. Mitchell, Jr., 85, of Lumberton will be 10:00 am Monday, June 27, 2011 at Farmer Funeral Home with interment following in Bumstead Cemetery in Lumberton. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Mitchell died June 23, 2011 at his residence.
A native of Port Arthur, Mr. Mitchell was a long time resident of Lumberton, living with his grandson John Smith and family for the last 20 years. He retired from the US Marine Corp after serving in the Vietnam War.
George was preceded in death by his wife Ayako Mitchell and daughter Peggy Ann Medina.
Survivors include sons, George G. 'Hank' Mitchell III and wife Renee of Lumberton and Shinichi 'Bill' Mitchell of Allen, TX; daughters, Bonnie Sue Tappan and husband Thomas of Anderson, IN and Beverly Jo Craigen and husband John of Spring; brothers, William Roger Mitchell and Charles Norman Mitchell, both of Lumberton; sister Carolyn June Belk of Port Neches; nineteen grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
