Martha Lorene Welch Hooks, age 107, died in Marble Falls, TX. on August 19, 2011. Lorene, who was born in Olive, lived in Kountze until the early 1980s when she moved to Marble Falls to live with her sister.
Lorene graduated from Sam Houston Teacher College, and she taught 5th and 6th grades in Kountze for several years. She married William Arden Hooks, and they had Henry Allen Hooks. Lorene taught Sunday School for many years at the First Methodist Church of Kountze. She was an avid bridge and domino player.
Lorene Hooks is survived by three grandchildren, Alexandra Hooks Blank of Seabrook, Allison Hooks of Houston, John Hooks of Kountze and one great granddaughter, Laura Hooks Blank of Seabrook. She was also survived by her daughter-in-law, Geray Hooks of Kountze.
She was predeceased in death by her husband and her son.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Sunday at Farmer Funeral Home.
