Verlin Justin Adkins Jr. 78, of Lavalette, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2024 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville. Burial will be in Baylous Cemetery, Salt Rock. He was born June 22, 1945, in Salt Rock, a son of Verlin Adkins Sr. and Alma Hale Adkins Estep. He is now reunited with wife of over 40 years, Georgette Maynard Adkins. Survived by daughters, Selena Draper (Lloyd) and Patrina Singleton (Jason). He leaves behind; one faithful sister, Nancy Gill; six grandchildren, Makenzie, Jacob, Michael, Abigail, Payton and Veya. He also leaves behind a long list of extended family and a longer line of friends who blessed him with prayers, shared their lives, made precious memories, and gave freely of their time. Verlin was a jack of all trades, master of many, and man of immense integrity. He had more nicknames than hats: Jr., Big June, Chief, Salt Rock, J. R., June Bug, Tiny, and Big Daddy, but his favorite name to be called was Pa. He was on the Board of Directors at Baylous Cemetery and a founding member of the Salt Rock Volunteer Fire Department. While he officially retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers as the Chief of Maintenance at East Lynn Lake, he also worked as a master electrician, water treatment plant operator, heavy equipment operator, and mentored anyone who would listen. The part of Verlin’s life many did not see is that he was a silent prayer warrior for all of us! Romans 8:18 “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.
