1945 - 2024

Verlin Justin Adkins Jr.Verlin Justin Adkins Jr. 78, of Lavalette, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2024 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville. Burial will be in Baylous Cemetery, Salt Rock. He was born June 22, 1945, in Salt Rock, a son of Verlin Adkins Sr. and Alma Hale Adkins Estep. He is now reunited with wife of over 40 years, Georgette Maynard Adkins. Survived by daughters, Selena Draper (Lloyd) and Patrina Singleton (Jason). He leaves behind; one faithful sister, Nancy Gill; six grandchildren, Makenzie, Jacob, Michael, Abigail, Payton and Veya. He also leaves behind a long list of extended family and a longer line of friends who blessed him with prayers, shared their lives, made precious memories, and gave freely of their time. Verlin was a jack of all trades, master of many, and man of immense integrity. He had more nicknames than hats: Jr., Big June, Chief, Salt Rock, J. R., June Bug, Tiny, and Big Daddy, but his favorite name to be called was Pa. He was on the Board of Directors at Baylous Cemetery and a founding member of the Salt Rock Volunteer Fire Department. While he officially retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers as the Chief of Maintenance at East Lynn Lake, he also worked as a master electrician, water treatment plant operator, heavy equipment operator, and mentored anyone who would listen. The part of Verlin’s life many did not see is that he was a silent prayer warrior for all of us! Romans 8:18 “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

Verlin was my dear friend from dialysis. We both went to dialysis for years together at Lawrence County Davida it is a small dialysis center in South Point.Monday we had dialysis next to each other I could tell he wasn't feeling well he was sleeping when he woke I asked him if he would like a snack I gave him some Capt.wafers n he asked me whatkind they were he said they were really good so I reached into my bag n had a bag of Ritz bits n gave to him after I opened it I'm the one that always brings the treats and he ate the small bag.We always small talked he always called me Salt Rock cause that's where I'm from.I love all the people that go there to dialysisVerlin had a special place in my heart. His wife made all the nurses ornaments and gave me one I put it on my tree and its still on it now.I will miss our conversations and his big smile.I know he was ready I even asked the nurses about his condition and I told them he was slowly getting worse and they agreed with me over the years it was a slow decline he was in a lot of pain and I know he was so very tough but a softy he was ready and he is with his wife in Paradise as it says in the Bible "And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there will be no more sorrow or pain ,for the former things are passed away" he is resting with his love and they are with Jesus and there is no more dialysis in Heaven remember that.He truely believed that.He was an inspiration to me and I'll miss him at dialysis .I loved Verlin I knew him well n we talked about Jesus and Heaven often and about Salt Rock.He was a dear friend and I'll miss him.God Bless You all and look up.Love & Prayers Jenny Gue /Salt Rock
