1907 - 2004
Mrs. Evelyn Shepard Wade, age 97, of Buchanan passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2004. Mrs. Wade was born in Haralson County on January 9, 1907. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Robert P. Shepard and the late Mrs. Ella Burden Shepard. Mrs. Wade retired from public education after 43 years as a teacher and principal with both Haralson and Polk County Schools. After retirement she was elected Mayor of Buchanan in 1969 and served for 20 years. She was a charter member of the Haralson County Water Authority and was a former member of the Peace Officer's Standards and Training Council. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Levi Wade.
Survivors includetwo step-daughers and son-in-law, Pat and Bobby Nelson of Bremen, and Brooksie Waldrop of Tallapoosa; three nieces, Sara Veatch of Cedartown, Shirley McKinney of Dallas, and Eleanor Merrill of Arizona; one nephew, Mr. Jimmy Matthews of Albany; special friends, Jimmy and Gloria Pope of Buchanan; and a number of great nieces, great nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 4:00 P.M. from the Buchanan First Baptist Church with Mr. Danny Hutcheson and Sen. Nathan Dean officiating. Music will be rendered by Rev. Buddy Gentry. Interment will follow in the Buchanan Cemetery.
