1924 - 2004
Robert G. Mackenzie, 80, died Monday evening, December 13, 2004 at Holzer Wyngate of Gallipolis after an extended illness as a result of multiple sclerosis.
He was born March 20, 1924 in Oil City, PA to the late Robert L. and Mary J. Poulson Mackenzie. He was a 1942 graduate of Gallia Academy High School and attended Ohio University. He served in the Dental Corps of the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Bob retired from Central Trust Company, formerly First National Bank of Gallipolis, in 1986, with 35 years of service.
Bob’s memberships included St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, which he had attended since early childhood; Masonic bodies: Morning Dawn Lodge #7, Chapter, Council and Knight Templars; American Legion Lafayette Post and the Kiwanis Club. He served on the Guiding Hand School Board and the Civil Service Board of Gallipolis. Bob was a 28 year member of the Gallipolis Volunteer Fire Department, a service to which he was deeply devoted.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie Waters Mackenzie, whom he married June 20, 1948 in Wellston, OH; three children, Sue Ann (Roger) Williams of Pickerington, OH, Beth (Mark) Blackmer of Reynoldsburg, OH, and Robbie Mackenzie of Richmond, VA; four grandchildren, Ty Williams, Susie Williams Mathew, and Vanessa and Tiffany Vandawalker; one great-grandson Zachary William Mathew; three sisters, Mary Ada Heinmiller of Rock Hill, SC; Betty Sabol of Toronto, OH; and Alice Oliver of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; several cousins, nephews, nieces and a host of loving friends.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2004 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Gallipolis with the Rev. Becky Michelfelder officiating and the Rev. Heath Jenkins, Calvary Baptist Church, assisting. Burial will follow at approximately 1:00 P.M. in Ridgewood Cemetery in Wellston, OH. Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis from 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2004.
